Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
We didn’t write a post yesterday for a few reasons. Yesterday was a day at sea without any significant scenic cruising to be had. Plus we came both came down with the 24 hr cold that a sizeable chunk of the ship also contracted. So we couldn’t have honestly wrote the typical, “..Rachel went to the casino and Ryan went the gym post…”. The only noteworthy thing that happened was that it finally got dark enough last night to actually count as “night time”. The first time we saw darkness in two weeks!
But today we woke up docked in Vancouver, British Columbia. This kicks off the fourth and final part of our 2016 big trip. Because we didn’t have tours booked today, we stayed on the Radiance of the Seas as long as possible and got off with the last bunch of passengers, and proceeded to our hotel. We got a room with a great view.
Then we went out to explore the city. Vancouver is a beautiful city, world renown for its many great urban parks. It has a unique skyline with skyscrapers that range from Art Deco to Googie to 2000’s steel and glass modern. Vancouver is also Canada’s Hollywood, with many movies and tv shows being produced locally. Chances are, if its science fiction, it was filmed here.
One of the buildings that Ryan was most excited to visit was the Marine Building. This is a beautiful example of Art Deco architecture. The exterior and interior of the building has been features on numerous tv shows and movies, such as Smallville, Continuum, Blade Trinity, Fantastic Four, and Timecop.
Next we wondered around the city a little more visiting various other photogenic places, including the convention centre/Canada Center/cruise terminal.
Our last major stop of the day took us to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. This is yet another beautiful park located within the Chinatown part of the city.
Tomorrow we continue exploring Vancouver.
