Location: Anaheim, CA
With Special Guest Star: Laura B.
Today was the second full day of our trip to southern California. We woke up early in the morning and headed north on I-5 to go to Disneyland and California Adventure. We arrived around 8:00 and walked over to Downtown Disney to meet up with our friend Laura who now lives in the area.
After entering the park, we got pins to advertise that we were celebrating our anniversary. The pins prompted a lot of cast members and some strangers saying ‘Happy Anniversary’ to us. We found it entertaining.
Besides catching up on old times, Laura was our unofficial guide for the day. She walked us between the two parks to find the shortest lines to the more popular rides. We started off the day in Disneyland. We were able to walk right up to Pirates of the Caribbean and then again walk up to the Nightmare Before Christmas enhanced Haunted House.
Afterwards Rachel and Laura took a break while Ryan went on splash mountain twice… in about 20 minutes (there was no line!).
Next we went to Tomorrowland to go on Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. Rachel took the high score in the latter.
We had lunch in Downtown Disney at the Jazz Kitchen where we were joined by one of Rachel’s college friends, Jeffry. Following lunch we entered California Adventure, where our first stop was Cars Land to go on the fun Radiator Springs racer ride. Then we went to Midway Mania, where Rachel again took top prize. This was followed by a flight on Soarin’.
The last ride for the three of us was Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue! But the ride broke 85% of the way through and we and other riders had to be escorted out. Ryan was disappointing that he would never get to find out how the ride ended. 😉
Laura had to go home to do real world stuff, leaving the two of us to fend for ourselves. We went back to Disneyland to try our hand again at Astro Blasters. We both had marked improvement with this time, with Ryan taking the round.
Then we headed back to Cars Land to take pictures of the area at night and then went on Luigi’s Flying Tires. It was a sort of hovercraft bumper cars, but without anyone in the area able to master the art of reverse ground effect driving.
We ended the day with one last ride on Star Tours. On the way out of the park we met up with another of Rachel’s college friends, Jess. We then caught the tram back to the parking lot and drove back to San Diego.
It was a long and exhausting day. We blew yesterday’s step count record apart with 27,095 steps! And our feet won’t let us forget about it.
Tomorrow we visit Sea World and get up close with penguins!
Total steps: 27,095 (about 11.1 miles!!!)
