Location: Corfu, Greece
Today was the first day in Greece on this trip; bringing our country count to four. Our stop today was on the island of Corfu, the north-werstern most island of Greece and the Ionian Archepeligo. It’s actually pretty close to Albania, and we could could occasionally see the other nation from the island and the ship. It is a popular vacation spot and is known for having usually sunny skies. It was mostly cloudy today.
Our excursion took us on a tour of the Achilleon Palace and a short tour of the old city. When we booked the excursion, we thought that the Achilleon Palace was a classical Greek ruins. It turns out that its a residence built for a late 19th century Austrian Empress. It was a hybrid of greek neo-classical and German archetecture and art.
In old town we couldn’t hear the guide, because our audio headsets were collected before hand, so we broke off to explore on our own. After much map checking we and the cats took the scenic route to get to the Corfu Synagogue. We learned a little about the history of the community before boarding the bus back to the ship.
Tonight was formal night. We classed the ship up again. Leigh wore his tux and Ryan donned the penguin suit.
The evening show was Limelight, a variety show featuring songs from numerous Broadway hits. Rachel and Becky (Rachel’s mom) played ‘Name That Musical’ and Rachel resisted the urge to sing along with the music. We enjoyed it quite a lot (well… Ryan didn’t hate it)!
For the first time this cruise they finally left a chocolate on our pillows. Except it wasn’t chocolate it was something much better….
Tomorrow we see ancient Olympia when we make port in Katakolon, Greece.
Total steps: unknown since the fitbit battary died midday. Probably around 8,000.
Total times Rachel got out of a hot tub succesfully this cruise: 3 (out of 3 attempts)
